Little Rock City News Q&A: Vance Cunningham III, Mills University Studies Junior Point Guard

Little Rock City News caught up with Vance Cunningham III, a Junior point guard from Mills University Studies. Here’s what he had to say about his basketball journey in this edition of Meet the Comets Q&A:
Q: How long have you been playing basketball, and what inspired you to start?
A: Since 6 years old, My dad would take me to the park and the gym with him while he played basketball and that sparked my love for basketball.
Q: What do you enjoy most about playing basketball?
A: The intensity, the grit, and the grind of the game.
Q: What’s one area of your game you’re currently working to improve?
A: Manipulating the defense.
Q: What has been the most memorable game or shot you’ve made in a game?
A Buzzer beater 3 pointer for my team to win the game.
Q: What’s the toughest team or player you’ve faced?
A: Farmington of the 2024 playoffs.
Q: Can you describe your role on the team and how it’s evolved over time?
A: My role on the team is Guard the other team best guard, Hit shots, and bring the intensity and energy to the game. As my offensive game grew I was trusted to be able to score and get points on the board for my team.
Q: How do you prepare mentally and physically for a game?
A: I stretch, hydrate, and warm my body up, and mentally I play music and visualize myself doing things that I plan on doing in the game in my head.
Q: What are your goals for this season?
A: To win the state championship.
Q: If you could improve one aspect of your game instantly, what would it be?
A: Selling charges.
Q: What has basketball taught you about teamwork and resilience?
A: That to be the best team and get the best out of everyone you have to be a unit and work together in harmony.
Q: If you could give advice to younger players, what would it be?
A: To work hard and outwork all of your opponents and to always thrive be the best version of yourself.
Q: If your coach joined a game, what position would they play, and how would they do?
A: Point guard and He would do very well. Definitely control the game and put everyone else in position to contribute as well.
Q: If you could dunk on anyone or team, who would it be, and why?
A: Anyone on Hall’s basketball team since its my old school.
Q: Have you ever accidentally scored in the wrong basket, Or what’s your most embarrassing moment on the court? (Be honest!)
A: My most embarrassing moment was probably Running down court and tripping over the ref legs.

A: Southwest Community Center
Q: How do you think playing for your school has shaped you as a person?
A: It’s made me stronger and has shown me the passion and meaning behind putting on a Mills jersey.
